Withernsea: Seafront Regeneration - Survey

Withernsea: Regeneration of Central Promenade and Valley Gardens

For the past two years, Withernsea Town Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council have been collaborating on a seafront regeneration project based on community feedback. In early 2023, Northern Shores Marine Consultancy Ltd was appointed to conduct a feasibility study into the proposals, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The project aims to enhance the Valley Gardens and Central Promenade, support local businesses, create employment, and offer a diverse and inclusive experience for visitors and residents.

The proposed project is broken into three elements:

  1. The introduction of beach huts along the front of the Memorial Gardens and the Fishing Compound.

  1. The installation of 10 micro business kiosks in Valley Gardens, creating a coastal marketThese kiosks are designed to be small and low-cost, providing space for micro-businesses and new start-ups, alongside supporting larger seasonal markets and events.

  1. Formalisation of the pedestrianisation-priority section of the Central Promenade from the HM Coastguard station to the Fishing Compound. This will prioritise pedestrians and create space for the beach huts but still provide access for authorised users.

Withernsea Town Council is seeking feedback from the local community on these proposals and has prepared a list of questions to gather your views and suggestions.

Pedestrianisation of Central Promenade

It is proposed that a part of Central Promenade from the HM Coast Guard Station to the end of the fishing compound will become a pedestrianised area. Bollards will be installed, reducing vehicle access to essential users only to accommodate for the introduction of beach huts. This would affect a small area of informal parking.
