Update on Bring Tennis Back to Withernsea

Since the commonplace survey Withernsea Tennis association have been applying for grants from various funders, and have so far been successful in awards to the value of £56,000;

£50k from Withernsea Big Local

£2k from James Reckitt Foundation

£2500 from Street Games

£1500 from Tesco Community Fund

£250 from Gassco

We have also been awarded £5k towards feasibility studies from the Active Growth program. So far with this funding we have appointed a consultant and have had the necessary architechtural drawings and lighting and tree surveys done to support our planning application, which will hopefully have been submitted by mid-October. We are extremely confident that we will be successful in a grant of £22.5k from Active Growth in the very near future, once the feasibility studies are finalised.

We have been delivering tennis as an after school club at Withernsea High School and hope to follow on from this by going into the local primary schools in 2024. We also participated in the Year 5 Festival of Sport at Withernsea High School in July 2023, which we had a fantastic response to.

With some funding behind us, we plan to start the construction on the Lascelles Avenue tennis courts in Spring 2024, and hope for two out of three of the courts to be complete and available for use by Summer 2024.

Anyone wanting to try out our social short tennis sessions at Pavilion Leisure Centre on Mon & Wed evenings 7-8pm, all ages and abilities welcome, please drop us an email @ WithernseaTennisAssociation@outlook.com
